American Whiskey | 62.5% ABV

Commercial Description:

In 2004 Christian Krogstad founded House Spirits, makers of  Vodka, Gin, Rum, and Whiskey but not just any whiskey: they specialize in  American Single Malt. In 2011, Thomas Mooney joined the team as co-owner & CEO. and a few years later the company changed its name from House Spirits to Westward Whiskey, as they decided that they were going to focus on the production of American Single Malt Whiskey.

In recent years American Single Malt, or ASM for short, has taken the spotlight. Westward is one of the largest producers in operation. With a core line that includes a 45% ABV expression, a Cask Strength, a Stout Barrel Finish, a Pinot Noir cask Finish, and a Rum Cask Finish they have one of the most diverse ranges.

This is our second single cask from Westward, and this time we’ve got a Stout Cask Finish that is clocking in at 62.5% ABV/125 proof.

Appearance: In the glass, this Whiskey presents as flat cola.

Nose: This opens with aromas of mocha, malt, and orange. Followed by peanut sauce, and sesame oil. This evokes memories of Hot Pot aka Chinese Fondue

Palate: On the first sip this whiskey is reminiscent of Mexican Hot Chocolate. It has some of those nice chilli/spice notes along with hearty chocolate. There are also notes of candied Orange, malted barley, and a slight note of bitter cacao nib. The finish is very rich, and again evokes those notes of Mexican Hot Chocolate.
